Glenn Hauser logs September 13-14-15, 2016

** BANGLADESH. 15105, Sept 15 at 1235, JBA carrier, unlike at 1230, presumably English from Bangladesh Betar. Checking this, since a survey by Ivo Ivanov, Bulgaria, Sept 6 found this transmission not heard, altho he did get all the later ones between 1315 and 2000 on other frequencies. I know it`ll be a rare day if the 15105 broadcast to SE Asia ever come in well enough here to get anything out of it. The only other English broadcast is 1745-1900 on 13580 to Europe, which I`ve hardly ever checked but would not expect it to do any better. Right, nothing audible on 13580 at 1806 UT Sept 15.

15505, Sept 15 at 1359, the Urdu BB broadcast can make it a little better here, but not today: JBA carrier, not enough to make out a 1400 mis-timesignal if there was one, but some theme music (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. 4885.025, Sept 14 at 0548, good S9 signal with music, vs CODAR but evitable by LSB tuning; no doubt R. Clube do Pará is again running all-night.

4885.018, Sept 15 at 0611, music station again, ``We Are the World``, but a second weaker carrier making a beat with BFO on, so R. Clube do Pará and the other ZY, Rdif. Acreana. BTW, at deadline for WRTH 2016, both were double-daggered as inactive (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA [and non]. 6180, Sept 15 at 1239, Firedragon mixing with Chinese talk adding up to S9+20. RTI is scheduled here at 1000-1600, 300 kW at 325 degrees right across China, so certainly Must Be Jammed. The Chinese I hear is probably more jam from CNR1 rather than victim RTI (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MADAGASCAR. 9480, Sept 15 at 0410, still no signal from MWV/APR in English. 17640, Sept 15 at 1807, still no signal from MWV/APR in English (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 870, Sept 15 at 1201, NA is playing, and at 1207 recheck, XETAR is just now signing-on in Spanish, neat rustic music breaks, and same in other native languages but they still pronounce the calls and website as in Spanish, and the sponsoring agencies. Lema: ``Cuatro pueblos unidos en una sola voz``. As usual, good signal from 10 kW daytimer La Voz de la Sierra Tarahumara, in Guachochi, Chihuahua, dominating frequency until fadeout by 1220 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NEW ZEALAND. 15720, Sept 15 at 0410, no signal from RNZI. I can usually conclude it`s off, since Australia is audible, but not tonight on 17840, and a JBA carrier on 15240. RNZI is however on loud and clear at 0558 on 11725 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NIGERIA [non]. 7415, Sept 15 at 0619, raucous drumming & fluting, then tonal language talk, S9+20. It`s R. Dandal Kura via ASCENSION in Kanuri. Compares favorably to BBC/ASC English on 7445, only 5 degrees apart in azimuth sendoffs (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** RUSSIA. 5900, Sept 15 at 1256, JBA carrier, presumed R. Rossii, Vladivostok; a timesignal is JBA circa 1300 but not looking at my watch in time to pin it down (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** RUSSIA. 7295, Sept 14 at 1301, R. Sakha is S5 with QRhaM but can tell it`s still modulating until off at 1303*.

7295, Sept 15 at 1255, NO signal detectable from R. Sakha, nor in the previous hour; off, or propped out? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, Sept 15 at 1312, still a JBA carrier here, so prolonged-beyond-1200 emanations continue from SIBC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SURINAME. 4990.0, Sept 15 at 0609, JBA carrier, presumed R. Apintie, which is known to run all-night. I never get it any better than this (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U K [non]. 11945, Sept 15 tune-in at 0559 hearing nothing but a 5+1 timesignal ending about one second late after 0600, and off*. HFCC shows it`s BBCWS in English for one hour only via Meyerton, SOUTH AFRICA (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1842 monitoring: confirmed Tue Sept 13 at 2130 on WRMI 15770, good, resumed after a month of pre-emptions; also confirmed Tue Sept 13 at 2330 on WBCQ 9330v-CUSB, good. Also confirmed Wed Sept 14 at 1315.5 on WRMI 9955, fair S8. Also confirmed Wed Sept 14 after 2100 on WBCQ 7490v-AM, poor. Also confirmed Wed Sept 14 after 2330 on WBCQ 9330v-CUSB.

WORLD OF RADIO 1843 ready for first airing Thursday September 15 at 1130 on WRMI 9955: first check at 1140, JBA but sounds like me; confirmed by 1149 when it`s surged up to S9+20! as sunrise propagation has kicked in, the ionosphere warming up. Next:

** U S A. 7490, Sept 14 at 0559, S9 WBCQ is still on in expanded schedule until 0700, but not Bill Cooper at the moment. Two guys with informal chat about songs and improvising some music, whistling, saying it`s a ``variety program, as well as religious, not the same as Bill Cooper did``. Interrupted by quick automated ToH WBCQ ID, but they are apparently unaware of it, as not until 0605 do they play some of Allan`s ID jingles.

As I reported before, expanded 7-daily 0400-0700 UT 7490 sked shows ``The Hour Of The Time / The Road To Paradise``. But checked next night, Sept 15 at 0619, 7490 is OFF! That didn`t last long; or an anomaly?

Intervening, on 7490.048-AM, Sept 15 at 0252, an `Allan Weiner Worldwide` playback is running as scheduled, the one with Pam and her ukulele singing a song she composed about pirate radio, 0300 cut to scheduled `Financial Survival`. The 0100-0300 UT Thursday block, no longer needed by Hal Turner, had been mentioned by Allan as a possible slot for pirate YHWH, who wanted to be on WBCQ. I didn`t check last week or earlier tonite in case it already happened as a one-off? I asked Allan to let me know when YHWH would show. Meanwhile, as on UT Thu 01-03 only, Brother Scare has been shifted from 7490 to 5129.86; if there are no other takers for that bihour on 7490, I suppose they may as well give it back to BS. And 9330 is off now (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9475-, Sept 15 at 0247, WTWW-1 is still on at S9+40, Ted having failed yet again to switch to night frequency 5830 at 0200. Next check 0605, 5830 is still off, and 9475 has shrunk to a JBA carrier, but obviously that`s what it is, nothing else scheduled. No doubt it stays all night, spewing its white-supremacy crap into nowhere; good. At 1156 still no 5830 and 9475 JBA carrier (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 17775v, Sept 15 at 1437, KVOH is a hefty S9+27 during Spanish praise music, but with BFO can tell the carrier is wobbling slightly and rapidly. Was not audible at all at 1400 if they really signed on then, before the ionosphere attains daytime MUF over the western path. When will KVOH ever get their replacement transmitter going? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 840, Sept 15 at 1202 UT, looping N/S, peppy M&W announcers in Spanglish, mention McAllen, soon fades out, no doubt KVJY, CoL Pharr TX in the RGV. Radio-Locator linx to this website
which appears to be current, as Informativo RG, but R-L also calls it ``La Luz`` with an address in Austin. Neil Kazaross was getting this in Kansas City and thought there had been a format change at KVJY. Beware: there is another Luz on 840 and 101.9 FM in Guatemala. As for Spanglish, it`s hard to imagine anystation broadcasting that from the other side of the bortera (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1170, WWVA: I have been meaning to correct a slip on WOR 1842: saying Virginia instead of West Virginia as its state of origin, if not transmission. I certainly know the difference; altho to be fair, the other one should be East Virginia. Can you imagine a Carolina and a South Carolina; a Dakota and a North Dakota, or vice versa? Axually, I seem to recall one of the Dakotas was considering co-opting the un-direxional name (Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1480, Sept 15 at 1214 UT, peppy M&W announcers mixing English with South Asian language (Hinglish? Engjabi?), VG from SSE, i.e. KBXD Dallas --- so they have finally become a real station after stunting for months with nothing(?) but S Asian pop music. Promos/ads for somethings in the 469 area code, which is one of the overlays around 214 Dallas. 1218 UT ID as ``Radio Salaam Namaste``, introducing a music break; now losing a little to KQAM Wichita with a 2.5 Hz SAH. 1222 UT ``This is Radio Salaam, 1480 AM, Bollywood Channel`` --- sometimes leaves out the ``Namaste``. Ad for some event Sept 18 at the Irving Convention Center. Ad for bridal jewelry from Mark Samuel Jewelers. ``Radio Salaam Namaste, 1480-AM, music with a beat``; generic birthday wish.

KBXD is 50/1.9 kW, clearly on day power now. It had a hard time getting going since a rebuild, with previous religious or music formats stunting (``Wonderful K-Box``), and long spells off the air.

Googling around, it seems a station of the same name had been on 104.9 (KZMP) since at least 2008y, but no mention of an FM frequency now!
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 560, Sept 15 at 1159, Mexican loops SW, 6:59 timecheck, ``Mundo Deportivo`` segment in news, something in the Estadio Jalisco. There are no tapatíans on 560, but most likely XESRD in Santiago Papasquiaro, Durango; or XEGIK in Monclova, Coahuila, altho the only 560 with a purely news format in the 2015 IRCA Mexican Log is XEOC in México DF. But many musical stations include a morning news block, which can throw you off (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 702, Sept 15 at 1147, the only TP carrier I can detect is this, from the west, presumably 2BL Sydney, Australia (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 2800, Sept 15 at 1151, wideband warbling centred around here, and off. Could it be HAARP reactivated from Alaska? Via CIDX Messenger, Rick Lindquist`s ARRL article says:

``The FCC recently granted two Part 5 Experimental Service licenses for HAARP ionospheric research "across multiple bands." WI2XFX will cover experiments in discrete parts of the HF spectrum, including 2650-2850; 3155-3400; 4438-4650; 4750-4995; 5005-5450; 5730-5950, and 7300-8100 kHz. A second Experimental license, WI2XDV, covers ionospheric research between 1 and 40 MHz`` (Glenn Hauser, WORLD OF RADIO 1843, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 5810, Sept 15 at 1244, very poor signal with talk: nothing is listed in EiBi, Aoki or HFCC except WEWN at 00-05 (and no, this is not now // 12050). It could be a new jumparound channel for BBCWS English, e.g. via Thailand to avoid ChiCom jamming, which means it would be somewhere else in the area tomorrow, but maybe back here in a week next Thursday (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 7265, Sept 15 at 1255, soft songs vs LSB QRhaM. Per EiBi, Azad Kashmir Radio is here from PAKISTAN until 1300, while CNR2, CHINA Business Radio is on 7265 before and after 1300. Aoki, however shows an AKR break off the air between 1215 and 1330. If they both be on, which one would more likely be playing ``soft songs``? On Aug 30, Ron Howard found that AKR does not sign off at 1215, but blocked after 1230 by CNR2 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 11415-USB, Sept 15 at 1251, presumed Indonesian QSO pirate best but weak here; also others detectable intermittently on USB: 11405, 11420, 11455, 11460. Just talk, no singing heard (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 11980, Sept 15 at 1321, weak signal seems to be jammed by several stronger offset carriers causing multi-hets, from circa 11980.40, 11979.45, 11978.40; still the same at 1403 and 1443 chex. The only thing scheduled on 11980, at 1200-1400, is CRI English via Kunming. Heard on two receivers. Or possibly of local origin? I`m afraid so: still hearing them on a third at 1735; never mind (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
